Frequently asked questions about cat food

Updated: Oct 13, 2020

After working at Pawsarotti's for a little over two years, I find myself answering the same questions about cat food over and over again, so I thought I would write out some frequently asked questions customers seem to have, and my answers to those questions.

1) My cat isn't eating and seems to be bored with what i'm feeding them. What should I do?

Switch things up! You probably wouldn't enjoy eating the same thing over and over again, day in and day out, so I'm sure your cat would enjoy something different every now and then. Luckily, there are plenty of things you can use to change up their diet without breaking the bank! One thing you could do to switch things up is by switching flavors or brands of kibble. At Pawsarotti's we do offer a 100% money back guarantee on all kibble, so if you try something out that the cat isn't a fan of, bring back the open bag and we will exchange it for something else or give you your money back! We also have hundreds of different canned cat options, pouches of pate and stew style cat food, and pouches with just different flavors of gravy that you can drizzle over their kibble to change the flavor and add some moisture to their diet.

2) My cat seems perfectly happy with what i'm feeding them now, but I read an article and saw that some cats don't do well on that food, so i'm looking to switch, what do you think?

My general mantra is "If it's not broke, don't fix it". Every cat is different and responds to things differently, so taking advice from one cats owner on how their cat responded to a food isn't really indicative of how your cat will respond. Also many articles and studies are backed by companies who are trying to sell a rival or comparable food, so some studies and articles need to be taken with a grain of salt. If you want to switch foods, feel free, and we do offer a 100% guarantee on out kibble, frozen, and freeze dried foods, so if you want to try something new out you can bring it back if it doesn't work, but don't feel the need to switch things up if you have found something that works for you.

3) Does my cat need wet food or is just kibble fine?

I HIGHLY suggest feeding your cat a 100% wet or raw diet, but if you do want to continue using kibble, I suggest using wet food at least on a semi-regular basis. Not only is it a nice treat for your cat that they are sure to enjoy more than kibble, it also adds moisture which is essential to a cats diet. A cat in a natural habitat gets most of their moisture out of their diet, and they do not drink a whole lot of water, so even though cats are domesticated now, they still do not know to drink large amounts of water, so if you are not careful, they can get dehydrated even if you have water out and available to them. Cats tend to prefer drinking running water over still water too, so running a faucet for them or buying them a water fountain that circulates the water would be a good idea as well.

4) I want to feed my cat wet food, but I tried them and they wouldn't eat it, what do I do?

Every cat is different, and unfortunately, the only way to find out what will work best for your cat is trial and error. finding flavors they like is an important step, but it is also important to find the consistency your cat prefers too. Some like beef stew style food, some like shredded meats in gravy, some like pate, and some like minced meat. You could also look at the frozen raw diets as an option as well. We offer all of those different types of wet food, in multiple different flavors, so it really comes down trial and error until you find the type they like best.

5) Is a raw diet really worth it?

Absolutely! The raw diets are much healthier and much more similar to a cats natural diet than kibble or even wet food. Raw diets also include moisture levels that is imperative to maintaining a proper diet in cats. Raw diets are super high in protein, which replicate a cats diet in their natural environment, and we offer multiple brands with multiple flavors! We also offer a 100% money back guarantee on all our raw diets, so if you try anything out that you aren't satisfied with, bring it back!

6) What brand do you suggest?

Again, like I've said, every cat is different, but I have had good results with my cat using the Salmon Tunachovy kibble from the Fromm Brand, the cat & kitten kibble from Orijen, any wet food, kibble, or frozen from Tikipet, and he also likes wet food from Weruva.

7) Alot of people call us to ask what brands of food we carry.

All of our brands can be found on our website, or click here! https://www.pawsarottis.com/premium-pet-food-store-santa-rosa
